1st rd done of grafting complete.

Have you been pruning those ancient apple trees? If so, has there been any change in the volume or quality of fruit they are producing?

No I'm scared to tough them, there aint much of the trunks left on 2 of them.

Update on the trees i planted for my mom in spring 2016, i grafted myself (except 1).

That Homestead is taking off! In disease issues on the Pink Pearl?

No disease whatsoever on any of those 4 trees.

Put the bamboo support on the one graft with garden rope & aglok.

Had found this apple tree this past spring turkey hunting. Its in my grandpas old horse pasture. It must be a seedling of an apple we threw to the horses so many years ago.

Only 4 apples on the tree that i could see but there is no pollination partner around it as there is no other apple tree other than what I've planted on our property.

BV, the peach orchards around here train peaches to grow open and by that I mean not a central leader like an apple, but usually a short trunk with several limbs growing away from each other.
I'd trim back from where it's been broke a little then train it that way.

Here's an example of a semi dwarf I found to give you an idea.

Good selection Dan. I have Lord Lamborne , Shafer, Kidds Orange Red, and Court Pendu Plat. I've only fruited the Shafer crab(tasty) and the Kidd's Orange Red (too much bug-bird damage to really taste it). Sadly I'm running out of good planting spots and won't be ordering from GRIN this year. Will probably be limiting myself to 20-30 grafts this year instead of the usual 100+ I've been doing the past several years.

@greyphase, what did you decide on plantings this spring i have 50+ trees to remove from my nursery and plant out in my orchard. I have about 40 roostocks coming in to be grafted and then put into my nursery. What all varieties are you grafting?

What about you @aerospacefarmer, you still around here? How things going for you? What sort of plans do you have? Same would go for you @CrazyEd, whats up that wild sleeve of yours?

Been on vacation in the Caribbean for two weeks haven’t even thought about the apples I think I ordered 20 root stocks and will be doing them with varieties I already have
