Transplanting Oak Seedlings

GoldenTriangleIL

5 year old buck +
I have copious amounts of pin oak seedlings and would like to distribute them to areas in need of mast trees. Any thoughts on long term survival or growth if the taproot is severed in the process? Some of these seedlings have substantial tap roots. Any strategies/thoughts/concerns before I do this in mass?

How big are the seedlings? Remove as much of the roots as possible. It is okay if you don't get them all. Dig a new hole, spread out the roots making sure they are not curved up or back towards the tree, fill in the dirt, water it, and protect it.
