Ever try mowing in the spring and then spraying when they bounce Back? I did with 2-4D once and it knocked the crap out of them. Slowly started coming back. But maybe with some of that stronger spray it would work better.
Wild ass guess here. What time of the year? Any chance it was dry and the trees in the timber were sucking all the moisture out of the ground making the bayberry go dormant?
I have. planted sunflowers, beans and sorghum. It got pretty weedy because anything you spray to kill the weeds in the beans will kill the sorghum.
Having said that, it was still food. Never saw a sunflower but my deer hammer them.
When I first got to MO I looked at a great 320 acre farm in Harrison county for $320K. Wish I bought that place! It was nice but I though it was to much land because I knew nothing about MO at the time. DOhhh, Now I'm up to 412 where I'm at because the neighbors keep offering me land.🤪

You don't have to use all the herbicides listed. It's just that it is safe to use any or all on the beans. Glufosinate alone should be enough to smoke the marestail and Johnson grass.

If he plants it you may want to just request that he leaves it for your critters to eat over the winter.
Though so. I know that guy. He had about a 1200 acres lease next to me when I first bought. Archery only and a fine for anything under 140”. (I think it was 140).
That land has since sold and the new owners are as bat shit crazy as me. Old 8’s and 9’s are fair game. Young 10’s and up are no no’s.
I had a 10 acre field that I considered a complete failure due to weeds after the second summer. The following spring I hit it early in April with gly. Switch took off that summer.
2-4,D won't hurt now but it won't clean up the other grasses.
I just looked up the township range for my place. Nothing is the same as 1930. The roads are even different and many property lines look different. Many many smaller lots then today. The old timers around me say there was a homestead on nearly every 40.
The map did show the school house that...
