It’s been a long time since I have posted on this forum but with recent success I have revived my passion for land management and hunting. Two years in a row I was lucky enough to get our top target buck. My dad has invested hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars so I can show up and shoot...
Old camera that doesn't list the correct date but I love this picture. We didn't get this buck but it is great to see him moving during daylight right with the toms.
This year my dad was hunting mid-week during the rifle season. He heard a shot over at the neighbors early in the morning but ended up coming in for breakfast. On his way in he crossed a big track and saw a small amount of blood. He tracked the buck for a couple hundred yards and saw no other...
My grandfather planted 4 trees probably 7-8 years ago. This is the first production we have had on any of the trees. Last year we pruned them which may have helped. The apples have a moderate hardness and are rather tart but still edible. Any insight in to what they might be would be great.
In the idea of continuous improvement in land management, I have a plan to do most of my trail camera monitoring on mock scrapes this year. What is the best scent everyone has used for mock scrapes. I have used some in the past, but I am hoping for the 'secret potion' so to speak.

Has anyone else seen this? It is heart breaking. It really puts in perspective what deer camp means. I am at the point that I am looking to build traditions for my two children and this video makes me think about that. Everyone on here should watch this.
It seems like the first year of alfalfa you question why you planted it at all. Then the second year comes along and you realize why it can be such a powerful tool. Total of around 4 acres of alfalfa with another 2 acres of clover adjacent and strips of annuals coming in.
A month or so ago I had mentioned an old mount my Grandfather has that is my Great Grandfather's buck. This guy was shot in the 30s in a creek bottom the day after the season closed a mile north of where our property is. I have wanted to get it re-mounted and display it properly as it is an...
Short backstory first, the neighbor to our S/SE used to be an old farmer that did not hunt much. We shot a number of bucks coming from his property into ours and were quite successful doing so. In 2003 he died and his family put his land up for sale. There was a chance it was going to get...
I have an old food plot that is not part of our future habitat plans that is in a low area. It is about 1 acre in size and the soil stays relatively wet if we get a fair amount of rain. It is currently just overgrown weeds but I would like to establish some kind of tall perennial that would be...
I have three pieces of lowland creak bottom that are on the edge of our property. The contain mainly swamp grass species, 'buck brush', ash trees, and other seasonally flooded wetland species. Historically I have never been allowed in their by the property owner (Grandfather) but now things have...
My dad is going to retire either next year or the year after and we are kicking around ideas for a 'retirement' hunt. Some ideas include going through an outfitter but we are also looking at good public land hunts. Specifically hunts that have limited tags. One spot we have looked at is Sand...
