Just checked on the price of concrete wire at Home Depot and Lowes in southcentral Pa. 5 foot by 150 foot roll. $347 and $409. :emoji_rage: :emoji_rage::emoji_rage:
The Dolgo rootstock that I received from Ryan at Blue Hill had insane roots. :) and there was no way I was going to pot them up in my usual 3 gallon grow bags. So out came the pruners. But then I had all these nice looking pieces of roots that I couldn't let go to waste. So I cleft grafted...
I hiked back to some old apple trees that I had found last spring hoping to find some late hangers. I got lucky and found two trees with a few apples still hanging on. :) One had a few large apples on that were mealy tasting maybe sauce or pie apples, the other tree had small apples that still...
of the Cicada emergence. A few pictures of what my trees look like. :(
The damage to the limbs.
But apple trees are resilient and I see new growth at the end of many broken branches.
My grafts that I top worked on to trees this spring came through in good shape perhaps because I kept them...
Most of my trees in 6A have dropped their blooms but the Adirondack crab is still going strong. If it seems a little lop-sided you can blame a bear for a bad pruning job. :emoji_head_bandage:
I noticed this year that my Winter Wildlife Crab has went biennial. It's always been a reliable producer but this spring has put out only a couple of flowers. Last year my Viola crab was nearly fruitless but this spring is loaded with flowers. Anyone else noticing their crabs going biennial?
What brand of trail cam would be good for a person who is perhaps not high tech knowledgeable. :emoji_older_man: Don't need all the bells and whistles just something I can figure out how to use.
Pictures from yesterday of a persimmon tree I planted 8-10 years ago. I noticed last year that it had a few fruit on it and this year it carried many more. I only have a few persimmon fruiting and all except this tree dropped their fruit a month or more ago. Not a fan of the taste of a...
Here are the crabs I have growing in my orchards.
Winter Wildlife. Mr. Reliable.
All Winter Hangover. Some of mine are dropping now.
Chicken Coop crab. A crab growing where else but in our chicken yard. :emoji_laughing:Nice slow drop now through October.
#5 crab. Another crab found on the...
Just found this on my 2 year old Tull apple tree. If I had seen it sooner I'd have pulled it off, but it's looking so nice I left it on. Tree's showing a little cedar apple rust.
Ashmead Kernel. Cracks for me bad here in 6A and the taste has not yet lived up to it's reputation.
Hall, an old southern apple. On M7 planted in the Home Orchard. A small apple with a good taste.
Little Benny another southern apple. 4 years old on B118. Has produced nice clean apples...
A fawn carcass. Bear, Coyote, Bobcat ? All roam through the Back 40 Orchard. The day after this picture was taken the carcass had disappeared.
Some Galarina coloring up nicely.
A few Enterprise on a 4 year old B118 tree.
A Cherryville Black 4 year old on M7 is carrying a few apples.
