Was over by the lake this afternoon collecting some swamp white acorns. While I was driving around, I found this tree. It was planted here, not growing naturally. Acorns are large and pretty dark, similar to a chinkapin, I've never seen chink acorns near this big.
Made it back to north Mo for a quick visit and to gather a few bur acorns to grow. Out of maybe 15-20 burs on the property, this tree was...nuts! My question is, are they mature and viable after a period of drying? They are still a bit green. I will not have a chance to make it back.
The arrowwood I ordered from MDC are too small to plant out, they would get overtaken by weeds. The plan is to throw them in two gallon pots for the summer and plant out this fall. Those of you that have arrowwood, how fast do they grow?
