I'm in the opposite situation. I was certain I ordered trees and scions, but I was wrong. So I had to buy whatever was left on clearance. I'm ordering early for next Spring.
Birch breaks down faster than anything else I've seen. Might be good if you have some around.
I like splitting logs into quarters for hoog beds. Bark is designed to protect the wood, so increasing the surface area of the bare wood accelerates decomposition. But yeah, it takes a long time...
This the kind of crap I'm talking about. It almost encourages poaching. If a poacher gets caught half the time, they're in the black. I have never been checked for a tag while hunting, ever, anywhere. I have been checked for a fishing license several times in Ontario and once in Norway. The...
Generally, I do 2 buds on a bench graft. Exactly like people said above, the second one is just for insurance. In winter, the shorter of the two gets clipped off.
When field grafting, I am starting to use larger and larger scions. I'm using a technique I can't remember the name of, but...
I think wildlife violation penalties are so far behind the times that every new law needs to include an inflation clause. There are so many states where the fine for poaching is equal to or less than the cost of hiring an outfitter. And of course, enforcement is generally pathetic.
I have...
I'm not sure. I hunt in Holmes county in Ohio, where it's not much of an issue. The one time there was a scare, we did drive all our deer in to be tested. Because I'm outside the US now, a lot of the state level websites are blocked for me, so I am unable to check the details.
But do you wear your seatbelt when you travel in a car? Do you have insurance on your house? Do you concealed carry?
Why not have your deer tested for CWD? Or are you saying you would eat it regardless of the results?
Unfortunately, culling deer is currently the only way to slow the spread of CWD. Based on what we know about BSE, it's a miracle no humans have contracted CWD yet. It's a really nasty disease. I wish the government would put more resources into researching CWD so we could figure out how long...
You might have to spray to kill off the regrowth.
I think you should first identify how the 15 acres fits into the rest of the surrounding property and let that help decide where you want bedding and where you want food.
Also, what is the soil like? Is it piled up overburden like a spoil...
Can you use the same herbicides on your beans as you can use on your sunflowers? If not, then the herbicide resistant traits will not work together, and you will end up terminating one of your summer crops.
You could plant part of the field in sunflowers and part of the field in soybeans and...
In that case I would plant a good fall blend including buck forage oats and brassicas or whatever worked for you last season. I'm a big believer in blends, as I believe it's good for the soil, and that makes the plot more attractive to deer.
If you're planting a summer plot, nuke it and plant your summer blend. If you're only doing fall plots, wait until the brassicas bolt and mow it to see what clover and/or weeds you have growing and go from there.
Short answer is yes, you can. You can then come back later and spray herbicide over your Roundup Ready beans and Clearfield sunflowers.
However, I am a little confused by your objectives. Are you growing forage beans, or are you growing ag beans? Are you growing sunflowers for forage or...
The location for your bedding sounds great. Is there a reason you only want to do a few locations along the military crest rather than the whole thing?
