I’m always on the lookout for late crab apples, but lately I have been finding a lot of these small pears. 1.5” to 1.75” pears, some are mushy, some are not. Anyone know what these are? Perhaps a rootstock that took over a neglected tree? Could they be good deer food? Would it be worth...

$79.99 plus tax and free shipping. I took a chance on one since Reveals are so hard to find right now. Hopefully I will...
I am very green on building a pond or small lake. I am not sure where to begin or have no idea about the pipe needed for overflow and etc. Can someone recommend a good book to help me get started? First adventure is going to be a small pond for blue gill then hopefully a lake. Thank you!
Years ago I planted close to a 1 acre field in Ladino white clover. It was the first food plot I ever planted. It came up beautifully and lasted for years, but the deer almost never used it. I blamed it on all AG fields nearby. This year I decided to give clover another try and went with...
I've been doing some reading about the benefits of humic acid for root building and overall soil health. I have a few spots that would benefit from it if it works. Anyone every use it around their trees?
At the end of my yard I had about 6 crabapples I didn't care for. The fruits were small and dropped super early. I cleft grafted them all. Haralson, Martha crab, shavel sharp, and pipsqueak. The grafts were growing very fast with 8" of new growth. I made my graft about 3.5'-4' high. I...
Long story short, a farmer at a farm I hunt decided to cut down a few trees. A couple of them were great trees to hunt by. Crabapples in a pasture mostly. Since the trees are going down as we speak, can I take scions now, and will they last until the spring? There is no talking the farmer...
All I can say is the deer are really liking them! I added some to my turnips this year. They haven’t touched the turnips but are loving the daikon and groundhog radishes. Deer poop everywhere. If anyone hasn't added them to their plots I encourage you to try them!
Hi everyone. This is the year, when the 17 year cicadas came back. I was warned that the female cicadas lay their eggs in the ends of branches and the ends of branches will die. I am seeing that everywhere here in Western, Pennsylvania as we had them really thick. I am clipping off the dead...
I recently read a decent article where a guy was planting winter wheat 3 weeks before turkey season and seemed to attract tons of hen turkey which indeed brought the Tom turkey in too. Not a bad idea, I might give it a try here in Pennsylvania. Any thoughts or opinions? I was thinking of...
Hi there everyone, anyone have experience with planting switchgrass? Frost seeding, TNM, or till and plant? I am in North Western Pennsylvania. Probably looking at the Cave n Rock variety. Creating some cover for bedding and entry/exit to stands. Thanks!
Opening day for unit 2b with a bow in Pennsylvania. My son and I were lucky enough to have one of our target bucks come up close munching on acorns. I thank you all for answering all of my food plot questions. He came to a staging area for acorns on the way to my oat and pea plot.
Has anyone tried what a few seed companies are calling dwarf corn? It's supposed to stay about 3-4 foot tall and have ears that are lower to the ground. I may give it a shot next year. My RR corn I planted this year was 10-12 foot tall with ears off of the ground about 5-6 feet. Any...
Hi everyone! I really want to give some winter peas a try in late august. Can anyone give me any direction? Austrian, frost master, lynx,.....so many choices. In western, Pa. I have great soil to work with. The deer just won't eat my turnip mix, I've planted in previous years. I want to...
I hoping some of you Apple Gurus have some more information on this variety. I picked them up at Costco the other day. Not cheap, but boy were they are good eating apple! I did a quick Google search and say it is a fairly newer variety from New York. I may like them better than Honeycrisp.
