Did you kill the buck from that set up? Any thoughts on putting your water next to your food? Obviously some don’t do that but it seems to me it would be beneficial.
I would have a minor concern with the deer bedding in that patch of woods west of your cabin and having to cross your neighbors to get to your food.
Does the CRP actually hold deer?
Your last statement proves my point. No one should ruin their hunt by chasing ghosts. Killing 3 year olds in a heavily pressured are > complaining about the DNR/neighbor/predators and shooting nothing.
Removing any standard from myself has made hunting for me what it was like when I was a kid...
Are you guys more impressed with someone who kills a 3 year old, the oldest buck in the neighborhood, in a high pressure area, or a 4 year old buck in a prime spot that also has 5 year olds running around?
Some of the 2 and 3 year olds I have killed mean more to me than the 4 year olds because...

That is a great way to look at it.
What’s wrong with shooting a 2 or 3 year old if they are the biggest buck in your area?
If we were all focused solely on 4.5+ year old bucks we would pay money to hunt in areas that have them. Then, those areas would get burned out.
I have the same predators you have. Seeing them is always a concern and yes, the wolves love to run our roads. I don’t like seeing them but in all honesty they haven’t negatively impacted our hunting as much as I would have thought.
I agree with the statement about nutrition as well. I would...
As for buck numbers, I have been running trail cameras since 2005 and have seen our numbers fluctuate from as low as 13 to as high as 25 for our 280 acres (in MN).
There have been years that we only see a single 3 year old and other years we have multiple 4 year olds. There are a lot of factors...
