    Help with interpreting soil tests

Yep.....got some rain (1/2") and the rye is looking very good......but it's still early. Strangely.....my clover did not look too good when I was on my land for a short visit about a week ago. I'm spending more time Saturday and need to have a closer look at things. If that sweet clover...

    Help with interpreting soil tests

Actually I REDUCED my Oganic Material from the soil tests in 2017 which were 2.3 and 2.9. At that time I was doing heavy tillage to grow corn and beans, etc.....and ruining my soil profile with excessive tillage each year. Since that time I changed to mostly no-till.....and I am...

    Help with interpreting soil tests

This is from the label on KMag: PRODUCT ANALYSIS Potassium (K): 21.0% Magnesium (Mg): 10.0% Sulfur (S): 21.0%

    Help with interpreting soil tests

They did not provide any fertilizer recommendations this time. They have done so in the past. Generally they had recommended about 50 lbs/a for the P.(varies a bit with the intended crop) ....and suffer was constant at 30 lbs/a across multiple crops. I have never tested for Magnesium...

    Help with interpreting soil tests

Was just reading about that K-Mag fertilizer. Seems I have a somewhat nearby source......wonder how much should be applied?

    Help with interpreting soil tests

I took some soil samples last week and got these results today. Basically I have two soil samples here which represent about 4 acres of food plots each. Was considering adding more lime.....but wonder how worthwhile it is to do so considering the relatively decent PH levels I have...

Stock Market is the bottom in?

There are several new brands of Golf Carts that have come onto the USA market in the past few years. They are all assembled in the USA with parts made in China. The carts sell for about 1/2 of what the big brand names sell for currently. For about $7000 to $8000 you can buy a very well...

Stock Market is the bottom in?

^ Well stated Tree Spud. Like you I have seen raw material price spikes and swings in my times. I remember selling metals based on "price in effect at time of shipment." Many companies (large and small) have trouble controlling their supply costs.....and often must price forward on...

    Tractor pics?

Getting a drill was a real game-changer for me. I used to spend so much time and effort into tilling clean food plots and then trying to keep weeds at bay with herbicides.....and I spent considerable money on synthetic fertilizers each year. Now....I really have little to do on my...

    Research on planting techniques

It depends. If you are relatively weed free and have something like clover there.....then I would not spray with anything. However, if you intend to plant some brassica or have excessive weeds then you may need to spray it. We have a thread on trying to grow brassica into a clover plot...

    Spring weeds

I tried to till rye.....once - many years back. What a mess! It rolled up tight in the tiller.....and I vowed to never do it again. Had to cut it out with a sawzall.

    Research on planting techniques

Not sure how far down "the regenerative ag" path you have gone yet Matinc.....but this system is pretty cool....and far easier than what I used to do. 1. Keeping roots in the ground at all times builds OM and lets your soils thrive. 2. The rye and clover keep the weeds at bay and tend...

    Research on planting techniques

Not sure whom your asking here......but those pics sure look like rye to me. That rye should now grow quickly to over 4 feet high.....and will be making seed heads in June and July. You can terminate the rye later by mowing or roller crimping it. ^ That's what I do with mine.....which...

    The Sweet Clover Thread

I drilled lots of sweet clover last fall with my winter rye(late August) and a few lbs of white clover and some red clover too. Was a bit disappointed in some areas.....as the clover there is looking pretty sparse. I do need to spend more time just looking at what I got thru the various...

    Research on planting techniques

It has for me thus far. I think drilling desired seeds at relatively high rates will "crowd out" the space for weeds to grow. Thus preventing weed growth. Also some of the allopathic effects of crops like rye seem to prevent weed growth. I've been applying far less chemical in the past...

    New House Build

You can span larger distances with less deflection with steel vs wood beams. This is especially true if you don't want to have as tall of a beam structure (who wants a 36" tall truss?). Both have their place.
